I got to assist the students interested in Computer Science, Nursing, and Biology/Chemistry, so I spent some time in the Whiteman-Gibbs Science Building.
Reading about reptiles in my down time and directing parents to restrooms....
There was also a color run happening on campus at the same time as the registration day, so it was very festive! :)
Savannah started her first job on Saturday....I tried to get her to take some pictures, but I think she was too nervous-cited to do that on the first day. Maybe some will be available later when she feels a little more comfortable with her duties and co-workers. She is going to get to work with a catering/food service establishment and serve for weddings, funerals, and other special occasions at a nice venue in Jackson, MI. I am excited for her because I think she will really enjoy the opportunity!
Brad and the youth group/youth leaders worked hard to get everything ready for the Youth Got Talent event. We even made a bunch of chocolate strawberries on Friday night....the girls had fun dipping them with me.
We really enjoyed the show our kids presented and hosting the 8th Grade Jazz Band from Western High School and Free Shrugs Improv!
Then, today, we got to celebrate with all the kids from AWANA who have completed their books and worked hard all year to memorize scripture verses.
The things that strengthen our hearts are definitely in sharing our joy with others and in seeking after God with our whole heart. Occasionally, someone besides our pastor actually delivers an unplanned sermon via their testimony. :) Today, a couple in our church who just started working in our AWANAs program this year shared what it has meant to them to be involved in helping to teach kids the Word of God. The man shared the scripture passage from Matthew where Satan is trying to tempt Christ by using scripture.....and shared how that just makes him realize that memorizing scripture is a good thing, but applying it to our lives and understanding it....living by it is most important. It was a great challenge. I used to believe that I could totally overcome temptation by "this point in my life" or "that point in my life"....thinking I would be on the other side, but it isn't about getting through certain trials or storms and being free and clear on the other side. It is about faithfulness and perseverance....understanding that in our weakness, HE is strong and determining to gain more of HIM!
