On the way from Williamsburg to Monticello today, three of the girls informed us they were feeling car sick.
YIKES!
Karly was one of the three....then, a few minutes later she asked, "What's car sick?"....I think she thought it meant being sick of being in the car...Brad checked and we have been on the road about 22 hours over the course of our vacation.
Monticello was an absolutely beautiful plantation....amazing views of the mountains...they told us we could see 60 miles away. I was surprised by the amount of technology and gadgets in the home as Jefferson loved science....and I was particularly impressed with the gutter system Jefferson had installed underneath the walkways in order to collect rain water into the cisterns to give them a water source on top of the mountain.
This adventure added a great tour with information about slavery....it has been incredibly interesting to hear viewpoints from our founding fathers....especially on the subject of slavery and how each came to and acted upon their belief that every man is created equal.
After we visited Monticello, we stopped at the home of my 1st cousin once removed who used to work for the Department of Forestry for the US government. He now owns a large Christmas tree farm in the mountains of Virginia....the girls ran among the trees and pretended they were finding the perfect tree for us :)
There were magnificent views from their property!
