There's such a difference between duty and love. Duty weighs everything and gives only enough to balance the scale, but love gives much more than any prodigal could ever squander.

Henri Nouwen said, " I am the prodigal son every time I search for unconditional love where it cannot be found." If this is true, I think we are all prodigals more often than we'd like to admit.
Praise God we can always find it when we run to Him!
I love the following verse.....to me it shows the perfect response of the redeemed prodigal because that is exactly who knows the answer to the all or nothing question.
...But the king said to Araunah, "No, but I will buy it from you for a price. I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God that cost me nothing." So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. ~2 Samuel 24:24
