God Of All Comfort
I was blessed to pray with my friend, Chris, and his family today. I have seen God working in his life and using his chemo treatments to begin healing him, but he is at the point now where he really needs a bone marrow transplant and his doctors are trying to locate a match for him. He could definitely use prayer for that.... He has been through so much over the last few months...walking day by day. When we are right in the middle of such heavy stuff it is enough just to make it through a minute sometimes, you know?!
But, then somehow God weaves this beauty into it all by giving us people who we can encourage and comfort in and from our struggles....and in some mysterious way infusing our agony with joyful purpose. It is way more than just the whole "oh, yeah....me too!" thing.....it is deeply spiritual and emotional and we know GOD brought us or is bringing us through something and now He has given us this wonderful moment to stretch out our hand to someone else going through it....that is pretty profound to me.....what a gift!
Something like that just happened for Savannah. Some friends of ours are foster parents and they have just been asked to take in two girls....one 9 and one 4....these were Savannah and Danielle's ages when they entered foster care before we knew them. The woman who is the foster mom asked Savannah if she would be willing to give her some pointers of things she wished her (Savannah's) foster mom would have known as she and Danielle were transitioning from their home to their foster home. Savannah was pretty happy to be given the opportunity to talk about it from that perspective. I was so blessed by that....it's like joy sneaks up on you and says, "SURPRISE!"...this opportunity for her is just a taste of where I dream she will enjoy living....where she can use her past trauma and struggles to help people and realize a purpose in it all....praising God for where He has brought her and what door of promise and victory He has opened to her for herself and the others she can touch as He gives her opportunities to use it all for His glory.
