This morning at our church a man entered who I had never met before and he sat in the second row as we were leading worship. He seemed visibly shaken up or emotional during worship, so I decided to mention him to Brad after the worship time so he could check in with him to make sure he was okay and see if he could talk and pray with him. Well, even before I could mention this to Brad, the man sought Brad out to tell him part of his story while Brad was walking back into the sanctuary following a time of prayer.
The man had been on a cold sales call this week to a home of some members of our church and they had offered him hospitality. During that time in their home, he found himself sharing his pain with them and he ended up cancelling 6 other sales calls to spend time with them and they had invited him to our church. He and his wife just lost their son several months ago in a drowning accident and they have been stricken with grief. Brad had the opportunity today to talk with him and pray with him. He said he hasn't stepped foot into a church in over twenty years.
God just reinforced to me how much we are the church! I am so thankful for the couple who didn't shoo him away as "just another annoying salesman" but gave him their ears to listen to him and to give him support....and, most of all, for the way God planned that appointment. Please pray for he and his wife....you do not have to know their names to do that. It is my hope and prayer that they will find the healing they need in their Savior, Jesus Christ. And, if Village Hope Church can be the place where they can find support and encouragement in that direction, I'd consider that such a privilege for my church family.
