Hit The Road Plaque!

Today, Kassi and I had our regular teeth cleaning appointments with our dentist.  I have had a permanent retainer behind my lower front teeth ever since I was about 16 years old.  I have casually mentioned for a few years how I would like to get that retainer removed sometime....but, I never set an appointment for it because it just seemed like one of those "is this necessary?" things.  So, today, when I was being escorted back to my room for the cleaning part of my appointment , I passed my dentist and he said, "hey, do you have a little extra time today?....I can take that retainer out if you want me to."  I had to make an "on the spot" decision.  "Okay, YES....I will part with that shiny silver wire that has been in my mouth for....how many years now?.....22 YEARS....WHAT!!!!!????"  I could not believe it had really been 22 years....then I started feeling a little sad.... I can't say I have had too many things for over 20 years.

Random questions:  Does your dentist always talk to you and ask you questions when there is no possible way you can respond?  If so, do you still attempt to respond even with all the dental apparatuses in your mouth or do you just ignore the questions?  There is always a battle in my mind over this decision while in the chair  :)

My favorite comment of the day was not about my teeth....it was about Kassi's.  I was discussing Kassi's appointment with the dentist and he said we really should get her in to see Dr Howe, our Orthodontist, as soon as we can to start working with her.  He said, "I know this isn't really what you are wanting to hear right now."  (because both McKenna and Savannah are already having Ortho work done)...but, he continued, "I would say Kassi's teeth are pretty jumbled, but they are not just jumbled, they're jambalaya!"...haha!
