A Turkey Run

We celebrated Thanksgiving with my side of the family and then Brad's side of the family this year and I was thinking afterwards, I am nearly 40 years old and I have never had to make a whole Thanksgiving dinner...the part that freaks me out the most is preparing the turkey.  So, I decided I would have a practice Thanksgiving Feast day this weekend.  Brad had a church planning meeting most of the day today, so I thought that would give us plenty of time to work on it and have dinner when he got home.  I gave all the girls assignments because I need them to learn how to bring a dish to pass, right?!

I was totally in luck because Karly's 1st grade class had made a cookbook about how to cook a turkey.  Some of the instructions required me to go out and kill a turkey, so I got up early, threw my hair in a ponytail and went hunting :)

It reads:
"First you find it.  Then you cook it for 10 minutes. Set the stuffing. Then set the table.
Finally you can eat it.
I LOVE Thanksgiving."

Karly's instructions....wow, her turkey only takes 10 minutes to cook...(you would think she has NOT observed her mother preparing much besides microwavable food or something...ha!)
....I guess I could have slept in.

Kassi and Karly were the first ones awake, so they helped me by making the stuffing.

I like that you can see the steam in this picture.

Danielle is smiling because I let her make the JELL-O.....her favorite Thanksgiving food... or, any day food for that matter.

McKenna woke up and got to work on the green bean casserole....she wasn't as excited about her assignment, but she is not that excited about any Thanksgiving foods....if I mess the turkey up, we'll order pizza, then Kenna will be happy.

I gave Vannah her absolute favorite food assignment as well....mashed potatoes.  She ALWAYS makes the joke that the whole bowl of potatoes is for her...have you heard that there is always some truth in a joke? :)

My assignment at the halfway point...I was not thrilled about the prep.  Especially the part about the neck...but, at that point, I was way too far committed to turn back...YIKES!

Everything turned out awesome and we had a good time of going around the table and saying what we are thankful for....Karly said, "I am thankful for God because, without Him, He would not have made me so I would not be able to eat this food right now!"  :)
