In our family time together last night we read from part of Luke 4. It is the passage about Jesus being tempted by Satan. We talked about how Jesus fought the temptations with the Word of God and how important it is for us to hide it in our hearts so that we are prepared for temptations. We also talked about how Satan used twisted scripture to try to tempt Jesus and how important it is to be discerning....to ask the Holy Spirit to guide us in our knowledge of the Word. It was a great conversation! I am so glad we are doing this and that the girls are entering into the reading, discussion and prayer time so eagerly! No matter how well we resist Satan on one occasion, He will be back to try again....even with Jesus, he left him for a more opportune time. It goes on to talk about Jesus being spirit-filled and He proclaims who He is to the people by referencing this passage from Isaiah:
In Luke's account, Jesus said,
The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.
~Luke 4:18-19~
That just stuck with me all night....we are all still thinking of the newness of this year. Hopefully we are still working on our goals, but what a glorious thought that JESUS has proclaimed here in this verse. He is the answer to every need....physical, emotional, and spiritual....and through Him we can experience the YEAR of the Lord's favor!
Happy NEW year to you!
