A Voice Cries In The Wilderness

Our family Bible reading time tonight was from Luke 3 and it was interesting that the verses about raising every valley, making every mountain low, the crooked straight, the rough places smooth....were used in this chapter as John the Baptist quoted the prophet Isaiah.  John's heart's cry was "prepare ye the way of the Lord!"  You may be familiar with the Roman Road (to salvation)....a popular way to share the gospel.  At the time Jesus lived, the Romans had been building good roads where none had existed before....it was an amazing feat....and people knew all about preparing the way for these roads to come through because many were involved in making the terrain ready....they really did have to raise valleys and level mountains.  I saw a very interesting documentary once on how the railroads were built in the United States and that reminded me of this concept.

For many reasons, Jesus was sent to us at the perfect time in history up to that time for the physical advancement of the gospel and the Roman Roads were a big part of that.

....and yet there is still the spiritual preparation of every heart....

Before there are roads in the wilderness, streams in the desert, or rivers in the badlands...there always comes a desperate cry from the wilderness.

What is that cry?.....A cry of repentance.
True repentance and brokenness levels everything
...and that's when God can start building.
