Time Well Spent

Our culture puts so much emphasis on youth and vitality (or the perception thereof) that we almost discard the significance and value of aging....we don't even want to think about ourselves in terms of our real age.  I'm not lecturing...I'm there.  I got all excited when one of my pictures registered that I look 20 years old on a website that analyzes your face to tell you how old you look, I was thrilled when a dermatologist told me my skin looks 10 years younger than it is, and I mentioned to my hair stylist when she applied the color for my highlights that she could specifically hunt and cover the white....I inspected and think she missed a few :P

Countering culture, the Bible tells us to number our days....to be mindful that our time is short and to have an accurate mental awareness of our present state.  It is WISE to do this because this knowledge helps us develop righteous priorities to be effective and not waste our time on meaningless pursuits.

This weekend is set apart for the purpose of  remembering those who have gone before us who have fought for the freedom of our nation and been willing to put their lives on the line for us.  We remember them and celebrate....we meditate on the memories and allow the significance to wash over us.

We have some close friends who are camping this weekend and we received a text from them last night that said, "I have an opportunity to share Christ with someone, please pray."  THAT'S AWESOME!  In light of the brevity of our lives, we should be receiving and sending these kind of texts all the time.  Every new day we are given is evidence of God's mercy...evidence of the sacrifice of His Son.  Our days are not earned or deserved by anything we do.  We need to make our days count for His Glory.
