I realized I need to (get to...no one is forcing me...ha!) post two of the "Love Is" topics for a couple days in order to get to 14 by Valentines Day, so here's the next one:
Love Does Not Boast.
Here is something that can help if this is a weakness of yours...I only know from experiencing the weakness. Start doing great things anonymously...let it be a game you play with GOD...let part of the fun of it be that it is a secret between you two (it's okay to have secrets with Him...in that way, you can be cliquish). It really is quite thrilling to see someone benefit from something you have orchestrated and to know that the only one who needs to know ALREADY KNOWS and HE IS PLEASED, MAYBE EVEN SMILING OR LAUGHING OVER WHAT YOU HAVE DONE. If the Bible tells us to be hilarious givers, don't you think GOD is the most SUPER HILARIOUS GIVER OF ALL?! In that act of creating an "inside" moment with GOD, you have also given Him glory because you have singled HIM out...you have ascribed worth to HIM alone in something as simple as NOT BLABBING your goodness to someone else in order for them to be impressed with you. I'm realizing that boasting is actually a form of taking because it comes from a heart that desperately wants to take credit. To fight this urge, we need to learn to be incredible givers.
Do you remember the song that says, "the only good in me is Jesus"? That's SOOOO true...goodness comes from a heart that is right with Christ and motives that are pure. Because the Spirit of God is the source of my goodness, I have no bragging rights of my own.
This song by Chris Tomlin describes our only bragging right so perfectly.
