There's Snow Place Like Home

I SERIOUSLY felt this way tonight when I got home from taking three of the girls to tryout for The Wizard of Oz.  What a crazy, white knuckle ride from Jackson to Parma!  I pulled into the driveway and breathed a sigh of relief and a quick, THANK YOU, GOD, praise that we were home and could get warm.

Today was an interesting day at work.  It was the first day for my intern, Cindy, to meet with me and start helping me with some recruiting projects.  She is from China and speaks Mandarin in addition to what English she has learned from being in the United States since high school.  She is a junior in college now, so she is still working on mastering her English skills, but she has done quite well.  One time I was recruiting a student from Greece and I was joking with her that we have the saying, "that's Greek to me!"  and I wondered what they would say in Greece....she told me they say, "that's Chinese!" I cannot imagine starting out in a completely different culture with no knowledge of the language at all and being so far from family and friends. I took Cindy out for coffee and she told me her story and how she felt coming to the United States.  This was one of those inspirational days that makes me really excited about the potential results of my job.

There's no place like home, but we learn so much when we step outside of our comfort zone.
I think Cindy has a lot she can teach me!
