King of The Mountain

"Absolute power corrupts absolutely"....I've heard that before, mostly when people are mad about some kind of political decision.  I decided to see who said that after I saw a movie last night that made me think of it.  This is the whole quote by Lord Acton,

"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Great men are almost always bad men."

Let's think through history, have there been...
kings who use their power to amass great wealth....kings who kill babies to eliminate a potential threat to their throne....kings who devastate land in efforts to gain territory....kings who enslave and oppress different groups of people....kings who try to build a superior race by eliminating the "weak"....kings who use violence to propagate their ideas and beliefs?

It is so amazing to me that God warned Israel what our future would be like if we demanded kings to rule over us instead of allowing GOD to be our king.  But, isn't that our human inclination?  Tune out now if you did not see The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies...I don't want to spoil it for you.  After the king died.....I was anxious for a new king.....who will be the king of the mountain now?  No king of the mountain?!  WHAT?!!!!!  I CAN'T HANDLE THAT!!!!
(It is still funny to me how movies can affect me :)

It was also so interesting that all those armies came to the mountain to battle each other for the things they desired....they forgot who their real threat was and ended up being sitting ducks for an evil attack.  So many good lessons in there! WOW, J.R.R....I really like going on journeys through your mind....thanks for not keeping this stuff to yourself as a hobby :)

It seems Lord Acton's quote is right on the mark.....the only glimpse of hope in it is the word
"ALMOST"
("Great men are ALMOST always bad men.")
That means there are some who are GOOD....who do not let their absolute power corrupt them.

One who rules out of LOVE, not fear....
One who does not see his SURRENDER to GOD'S AUTHORITY as loss
One who would DIE for his people....for me.

That's my KING!
