One Does Not Simply

...show up for Parent/Teacher conferences.  Tonight, Brad and I tried to act real mature to avoid that "teacher look"...you know the one you get when you give your child's name and the teacher just grins at you like "Oh, now I see."  One of my favorite things about Parent/Teacher conferences is when the teachers don't know that Savannah and Danielle are adopted and they make mention to one of us about how much they "take after" us or actually pick a facial feature to comment on...I always get giddy over that :)

They can both say, "I am adopted." I often think about that as they make friends, meet new people, start a new school year... I wonder how often they feel as though they need to set the record straight....that would be tough, don't you think?   BUT, "I am adopted" is not the end of their story....They are learning to overcome obstacles that their past placed in front of them and work through all the stuff that goes along with the tumultuous changes they have endured....some of these things require them to work really hard in school to be at the same level as their peers.

I am so proud of them for their efforts!  I read a quote one time that was regarding adoption and it said something like, "I have four kids...two of them are adopted. I forget which two."  I am starting to feel that way :).  Regardless of ANYTHING else my girls decide to fill in the blank after "I am..."

I hope their first thought will be...

I trust He will pursue them like He pursues us, and they will know.
