Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples. When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. "Where did this man get these things?" they asked, "What's this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? Isn't this the carpenter? Isn't this Mary's son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon? Aren't his sisters here with us?" And they took offense at him.
Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home." He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. He was amazed at their lack of faith. ~Mark 6:1-6~
It is absurd to think of GOD, in human flesh, not being able to perform a miracle....isn't it? This limitation is in no way related to his inability to do marvelous things, but it is very much a limitation by the people unwilling to believe and receive that which he could have given them. Do you have faith that He can heal you...that He can give you peace....that He will answer your prayers?
The other night we were reading a passage in Luke about the faith of the centurion.
He (Jesus) was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: "Lord, don't trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, "Go," and he goes, and that one, "Come," and he comes, I say to my servant, "Do this," and he does it."
When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turned to the crowd following him, he said, "I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel." Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well. ~Luke 7:6-10~
This is quite a contrast from the first passage, right? This man didn't mock Jesus or question anything about his authority, he simply said he was unworthy, yet he knew if Jesus would just SPEAK the word his servant would be healed.....that also implies that this man would not need to see it happen for himself. His words tell us he believed all things were under the authority of Jesus.
